Danielle Barney

Danielle is a Partner at Bridge McFarland LLP and formerly Head of the Medical Negligence department in Grimsby. Danielle has worked almost exclusively in Medical Negligence throughout her 20+ year career in the firm being a Member of the Specialist Law Society Clinical Negligence Scheme in recognition of her expertise, a Legal 500 Recommended Lawyer which recognises the capabilities of law firms and their lawyers across the world and a member of Chambers of Partners. Danielle specialises in medical negligence claims for children and adults against all healthcare professionals in the public and private sector, and which involve a variety of medical issues such as:

• Serious brain and spinal injuries
• Birth injuries
• Gynaecology
• Oncology
• Orthopaedic
• Cosmetic surgery
• General surgery
• Cauda Equina Syndrome

In addition, Danielle’s specialist niche is in catastrophic brain and spinal injury cases, and fatal cases, in particular:

• Deaths in custody, or whilst detained under the Mental Health Act
• Inquest representation
• Judicial Review proceeding

Danielle joined Bridge McFarland LLP in 2002 having moved from a smaller practice. Having commenced training with the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives (CILEX) and admitted as a Fellow of CILEX, she went on to complete her Graduate Diploma in Law and then her Legal Practice Course at the University of Law in York, ultimately qualifying as a Solicitor and simultaneous achieving a 2:1 LLB (Hons) degree. Danielle has worked almost exclusively in the Medical Negligence department since joining the firm and will continue to specialise in this area of law.

Until January 2021 Danielle was a Trustee of Cauda Equina Syndrome UK: the UKs only Charity for spinally injured people suffering this condition, and is a Member of the Spinal Injuries Association Enterprise Board. In her spare time until July 2022, Danielle sat on the Governing Board for Old Clee Primary Academy in Grimsby and in September 2022 was appointed to the Academy Trust’s Member Board.
