This article shall be concentrating on injuries to mother and/or baby during birth.
Unfortunately not all births go to plan. Babies can sometimes suffer trauma either to the brain, due to oxygen deprivation, or physical trauma, due to misuse of ‘tools’ used during assisted deliveries, e.g. forceps, ventouse and so on. Experts suggest that even the mildest deprivation of oxygen can lead to a baby suffering a brain injury. This can effect both their cognitive function and mobility. Well-known conditions, such as Cerebral and Erbs Palsy, and neonatal death, can result from such injuries during birth.
Poor care during delivery may also lead to the Mother suffering from physical injuries. This can include vaginal, bowel and bladder damage, or even psychological injuries.
