Lowest Ever Level of Public Satisfaction With The NHS

According to a study by British Social Attitudes, public satisfaction with the NHS has slumped to its lowest level ever recorded, with only 29% saying they were satisfied with the NHS in 2022.

Ongoing news coverage and reports emphasise various issues within the NHS relating to waiting times, staff shortages and more; a recent Watchdog investigation covered ‘serious issues’ with the NHS referral process.

In 2010, the overall satisfaction level was 70%, indicating a significant drop in the past twelve years. All services within the NHS saw decreased satisfaction this year, including GPs, dentistry and hospital care.

Furthermore, the report found that A&E saw the most considerable decrease in satisfaction. However, this was expected due to steadily rising wait times since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic in 2020. Likewise, the British Social Attitudes survey was conducted in the autumn of 2022, before the winter months, when the worst recorded waiting times occurred.

Despite evident dissatisfaction with the NHS’ services, more than 8 in 10 people supported that the NHS should be available to everyone and funded primarily through taxes. In addition, 43% said taxes should increase to provide more funding. Meanwhile, 28% said the NHS should continue with its current budget.

Medical Negligence Solicitors

Funding and staffing continue to be serious areas of concern in the NHS. Public dissatisfaction is rising, and, in the worst cases, people are not receiving the care that they need.

More and more patients are experiencing delays in diagnosis and treatment. For those with time-critical issues, individuals should pursue their concerns with their healthcare provider urgently.

If you have reason to believe that your or your loved one’s care has been compromised by excessive wait periods due to a lack of staffing or resources, which has led to a delay in diagnosis and/or treatment, you may be entitled to compensation.

At Bridge McFarland LLP, we have a team of experienced medical negligence solicitors who assist people concerning medical negligence claims surrounding failings in care and treatment received under the NHS or by other healthcare providers.
