Gender Affirmation Claims

When things don’t go right, we are here to get you the answers you deserve.

Gender affirmation describes the social recognition and support for someone’s change of gender identity. Gender affirmation (confirmation) or sex reassignment surgery refers to procedures that help people transition to their self-identified gender.

The decision to undergo gender reassignment surgery will not have been taken lightly and the surgeons and doctors involved must follow a rigorous consultation process with each patient beforehand.

Most people who choose gender affirmation surgery report improved mental health and quality of life post-operatively. However, when gender affirmation surgery goes wrong; if patients are unhappy with the outcome; if the intended psychological effects were not assessed correctly; or if the results of negligent surgery have put the patient’s health at risk; the results can be devastating.

Our specialist medical (clinical) negligence solicitors have the expertise to deal with these sensitive and complex cases.

When things don’t go right with your medical treatement, we are here to help you get the answers you deserve and the compensation you need to get your life back on track.

Gender reassignment surgery negligence

Gender-affirming surgery is intended to give the person a body that aligns with their gender identity. The types of surgery or treatment associated with gender affirmation include, but are not limited to, chest (or “top”) surgery, genital (or “bottom”) surgery and facial reconstructive surgery to make features more masculine or feminine. Other treatments might involve hormone therapy or puberty blockers.

Gender affirmation and sex reassignment procedures are life-changing. Should anything go wrong, the physical and emotional consequences can be devastating. For this reason, patients must be made aware of all that is involved in the pre and post-operative period and must understand every risk involved in their procedure before making a fully informed decision as to whether they want to proceed with transition surgery or treatment.

Our specialist team can advise whether you have suffered medical negligence due to gender reassignment surgery or treatment. Some of the claims we can help with include the following:

  • Unsatisfactory results
  • Negligent consultation process
  • Surgical errors resulting in damage to nerves or blood vessels
  • Infections following surgery
  • Allergic reactions
  • Excessive scarring
  • Negligent aftercare

As medical negligence solicitors our role is to examine your medical records working closely with experienced medical experts to establish what happened in your case and whether your surgery or treatment was negligent.

We will guide you through the compensation claims process, fighting for you to receive the answers and compensation you are entitled to.
